"within the cosmos"

My project aims at exploring the movement and forms of the cosmos through the creation of wearable objects. The work is inspired by the image of the starry sky and space.

The universe is always attracted me and it is an obvious fact that galaxy is far from us, people can only see but not touch it and seems unreachable for ordinary people. For this reason, I aim to shorten the long distance between the sky and humans using jewellery.  I wish that when audiences see and wear my pieces of work, they will be able to understand my idea that is about connecting the sky and the human body. In particular, my collection, which is a series of rings aims at bringing a sky closer to our bodies and tangible.

During my process of work, I used enamel and metal as my main materials. My choice of material is mainly aesthetic, based on the texture and colours. The rich colour of enamel combines with the highly polished metal texture create a strong contrast, giving audiences a better visual experience. Moreover, I also used powder coating and acrylic paint to show the pattern which extract from the cosmos.

I intend to design my jewellery piece for more than just watching, wearing it, but playing with it, too. I want my work to always have eye-catching features. For each of the pieces I used the colours and shapes of the starry sky and movable elements that aim at suggesting orbits. The wearer can hold my works on their hands and play with it, which looks like interact with microcosmic sky.

My design mainly aim to let audience meet the starry sky in a new way, a new universe depicted with jewellery in a way that they’d never seen before
